Many of you were seduced by our preview launch on Ulule of our solid range with our star recipe, solid shampoo. Ludivine, our product formulator answers all your questions.
Why does my solid shampoo not foam like a conventional product?
When using conventional shampoos, we are used to the abundant foam which psychologically gives the impression that the more it foams the more it washes.
These are surfactants such as Sodium Laureth Sulfate that are very often found in conventional products because they confer abundant foam but also because they are not expensive, therefore very profitable for manufacturers. Unfortunately, these surfactants are very irritating and very detergent.
This is why it is preferable to use much milder surfactants that will respect all of our hair. However, mild surfactants will not necessarily foam, or even very little, so it doesn't seem to wash! And yet, yes! They will be able to gently wash your scalp without irritating or drying out.
A few tips :
Give your hair time to get used to
Give yourself time to test this new natural routine
Arm yourself with patience and deconstruct received ideas
Your scalp will thank you!
Tip: Do two consecutive shampoos!
The first will clean your scalp and a light foam will form then rinse
For the second you will see that the foam will be more abundant and it is a sign that your scalp is very clean then rinse thoroughly
How to use solid shampoo?
Use: For optimal washing, perform two consecutive shampoos!
Wet your hair thoroughly
Moisten your solid shampoo by passing it under hot water
Rub it between your hands first to develop a light foam
Then rub it directly on your hair in small circular movements over the entire scalp, the foam will not necessarily be abundant
Rest your shampoo then massage your scalp to distribute the foam evenly
Rinse thoroughly with clear water.
Make a second shampoo, the foam will be more abundant, a sign that your scalp is well washed!
Rinse thoroughly with clean water.
You can then use your solid conditioner to detangle, give shine and softness to your hair!
Keep your solid shampoo away from water and on a soap dish.
How to keep it well?
Several tips:
Keep your shampoo bar away from water on a soap dish
For travel, use a small soap pouch
For travel and/or home, use a soap net that you can hang somewhere safe from water.
How do I know my scalp type?
Oily scalp : if after your shampoo at the end of the day or the next day (or even a few hours later) you have an oily appearance at the roots, it means that your scalp is oily . It can also be accompanied by itching, greasy dandruff, etc.
In addition, if you are prone to oily scalp, very often you also probably have other areas impacted by this excess sebum such as the T zone on the face (forehead, nose, chin).
The cause is the excessive production of sebum by the sebaceous glands .
It can happen that external factors such as the use of shampoos not adapted to the scalp can cause excessive production of sebum . Indeed, as conventional shampoos with, for example, sodium laureth sulphate are very detergents and irritants, it will clean but will have the opposite effect by attacking the sebaceous glands too much, which will then secrete even more sebum to best protect scalp.
How to reduce excessive sebum production?
The frequency of washing must be increased, this allows the scalp to free itself from excess sebum and this allows it to breathe. Use of a very mild shampoo so as not to alter the hydrolipidic film.
The use of green clay to purify and remove impurities.
Do rebalancing. The use of bad products, as explained above, can cause this increase in sebum, it is therefore necessary to rebalance the scalp with good products that are gentle, healthy and non-irritating. This rebalancing can last quite a long time because the hair must readapt so you have to be patient but it's worth it!
Dry scalp: if you have weakened hair, no greasy appearance, itching which may be accompanied by dry dandruff, you have a dry scalp. It is the fact of having a decrease in the hydrolipidic film :
The sweat glands (which secrete sweat) are not working well, this prevents the proper flow of water to the scalp, so it will become dry and dehydrated.
The sebaceous glands do not produce enough sebum, so the scalp is devoid of lipids that lubricate, protect, soften and waterproof .
How to remedy dry scalp?
Use mild shampoos so as not to dry out the scalp even more
Integrate regenerating, moisturizing, nourishing ingredients such as vegetable oils
Massaging the scalp will stimulate the glands and allow the substances that make up the hydrolipidic film to be secreted.
Normal scalp: if you don't have excess sebum, a healthy, shiny, itch-free, dandruff-free scalp. You have a normal healthy scalp!
But beware, it is not immune to change because internal and external factors can weaken its proper functioning. This is why it is better to prevent and take care of it!
How to take care of your scalp?
Use of mild shampoo
Hair massage
Mask on the lengths
I have the impression that my hair is badly rinsed?
This can happen when you are unfamiliar with products that contain very mild surfactants .
Most of us are used to conventional shampoos with surfactants that lather well and are very detergent. But as soon as we switch to natural, very gentle products, there is this transition to be made: adapting your scalp.
3 tips for solid shampoo:
you can perform two consecutive shampoos and you will see the second shampoo the foam will be more abundant, it is a sign that your hair is clean!
Rinse well with hot water, too warm or cold water will not rinse the scalp enough because the solid shampoo is enriched with hemp oil or cocoa butter.
Rinse with vinegar water! This will allow the shampoo to be removed well and then close the cuticles and give shine to the hair.
You will find an easy recipe for vinegar water here.
Does the solid shampoo recipe contain sulphate?
No, sulfates are known to be irritating and drying, so the challenge was to find very gentle ingredients that fully respect the physiology of our skin. We are endowed with a natural protection which is the hydrolipidic film : a mixture of sebum and sweat. It helps keep the skin hydrated and nourished. Sometimes by washing the skin, this protective film is altered but the human body is well made and manufactures it so that it is protected again.
But what if we started from the principle of having products that respect and do not alter this protection?
So a new challenge is offered to us, to find ingredients that respect our natural protection.
We found them!
Like for example a very mild surfactant: Sodium Cocoyl Glutamate.
It is of plant origin, easily biodegradable, very gentle on skin and hair. It will not leave surfactant residues on the skin or on the hair, which helps preserve their physiological condition. In addition, it is non-irritating, and non-delipidating, that is to say that it will not eliminate the lipids which allow the good maintenance of water in the surface layer of the skin. It also significantly improves the moisturizing effect of rinse-off formulations.
Does the solid shampoo recipe contain SCI (Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate)?
No, yet ideal for solid products due to its solid or powder appearance and which provides a creamy foam! Unfortunately, this ingredient has a manufacturing process that is polluting the planet . Moreover, this is why it is not authorized by organic and natural label certifiers .
Today, we are lucky to have real enthusiasm from the various suppliers on the environmental impact. They offer us raw materials that allow us to meet our specifications: organic, natural, biodegradable, respecting the skin , etc.
Thanks to this offer of new ingredients, we have been able to make a range of solid products that are soft and respectful of our skin and the environment .
Will my hair get tangled using the solid shampoo?
No, we have an ingredient which is the detangling emulsifier which is a 100% natural ingredient suitable for creams (emulsions) and solid cleansing products. It is of vegetable origin and biodegradable . It brings a conditioning effect to the skin and hair but also a moisturizing effect, it limits thetightness and reduces the irritating effect of anionic surfactants. On the hair, it improves the feel and appearance of the hair and considerably facilitates detangling.
Difference between hemp oil and cocoa butter in solid shampoo?
Hemp oil will be more suitable for oily, normal to moderately dry hair due to its dry oily appearance. Indeed, in addition to its nourishing properties , which provide shine, suppleness, etc. hemp oil penetrates quite quickly and does not leave a greasy appearance on the hair.
However, hemp oil may be less nourishing than cocoa butter , which is very good for very dry hair. It will intensely nourish and soften very dry hair .
My mixer blocks during the recipe, what should I do?
Éteindre le programme, dégager ce qui gêne le mélangeur en s’aidant de la spatule puis relancer le programme
