The diagnosis

What are the characteristics of mature skin?

You have mature skin if, to the touch, it is rather dry, quite thin and begins to lack elasticity. Wrinkles and fine lines appear on the crow's feet and forehead. Your complexion is generally dull, you sometimes have redness in places. You feel your skin as supple and soft even if it sometimes lacks firmness. You have small patches of hyperpigmentation that are starting to develop. Mature skin is often drier than in the past. In fact, sebum production decreases with age, the skin becomes less and less oily, but also less protected! The production of elastin and collagen also decreases, the skin loses its firmness and elasticity, the oval of the face sags, and expression lines appear.

The needs of mature skin:
Mature skin is the one that needs the most daily and appropriate care!
  • Prefer “rich cream” textures to balms (too nourishing, even greasy) and gels (too little nourishing).
  • Think about antioxidants: in your cosmetics or in your food, your skin and your body generally need antioxidants!
  • Promote anti-wrinkle active ingredients to limit the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines and/or plumping agents to help reshape the oval of the face.
  • Consider essential oils and anti-stain active ingredients to limit hyperpigmentation. Remember: it is always easier to limit the appearance of stains than to make them disappear.
  • Never forget your sun protection! Intensive exposure promotes hyperpigmentation...and skin diseases.
Mature skin needs to be removed daily and washed with an ultra-gentle cleanser that does not irritate the skin. To avoid drying the skin further by cleansing it, it is possible to wash your face simply using a hydrosol or a two-phase lotion. Your mature skin should be hydrated and nourished morning and evening with an antioxidant and anti-wrinkle cream during the day and a plumping and anti-stain cream at night. An anti-aging serum will be applied below the night cream. Once a week, you can make an antioxidant mask to depollute your skin. Prefer “cream” masks to clay masks: more nourishing, they are gentler on the skin.

The ideal routine for mature skin

THE MORNING

Tone, cleanse

I use a hydrosol to cleanse my skin, brighten my complexion and refresh my face. The toning lotion is applied using a cotton pad or sprayed directly onto the face. It easily replaces cleaning with water for those who prefer to clean without rinsing.

The anti-wrinkle eye contour to open the eyes

I apply an anti-wrinkle and plumping eye contour serum to open the eyes and limit the appearance of crow's feet wrinkles. Thanks to its concentration of active ingredients, often higher than a cream or milk, the serum completes the facial treatment. It is always applied before the day cream.

Moisturize and protect the face

I apply an antioxidant and anti-wrinkle day cream. Don't hesitate to choose a day cream with a slight UV index. Indeed, UV rays and the sun dry out the skin, promote hyperpigmentation and skin diseases.

THE EVENING

Remove makeup from the skin

I remove my makeup and cleanse my face with a two-phase lotion (oil-water) to remove excess makeup and impurities accumulated during the day.

Anti-aging serum

I use a global anti-aging serum for my face underneath my night cream.

Nourish and plump deeply

I apply a nourishing, plumping and anti-dark spot night cream to reshape the oval of the face and limit hyperpigmentation.

+
ONCE A WEEK

A depolluting mask

I make a depolluting “cream” mask. Apply the mask to damp skin. Massage lightly to spread the mask. Leave on for 5 to 10 minutes. Remove excess with a tissue or reusable cotton wipe.

Recognized for centuries, argan oil is above all an anti-aging and protective oil. Ideal for mature skin and anti-wrinkle care thanks to its firming and softening properties, it is also antioxidant and helps protect the skin against free radicals responsible for premature aging. Nourishing and healing, it protects the skin from external aggressions such as cold, wind or sun. Ideal in facial and body care, it will also be very appreciated for strengthening the hair.

  • It serves as the aqueous phase for your two-phase emulsions or lotions

Hyaluronic acid

Hyaluronic acid is the best-known plumping and anti-aging ingredient. Incorporated into many dermatological and dermo-cosmetic creams, hyaluronic acid maintains skin hydration. It strengthens the hydrolipidic film and retains water in the upper layers of the epidermis to protect the skin from dehydration. It restores volume, plumps and redensifies the skin, thus blurring fine lines and first wrinkles. Present naturally in our body, the production of hyaluronic acid, like that of collagen, decreases over the years, thus reducing skin elasticity and density.

How to use it :

  • From 0.2 to 0.5% to incorporate at the end of the preparation of your homemade cosmetics (after the heating phase) or subsequently to a cream already made.
  • Hyaluronic acid is soluble in water and aqueous phases or in cosmetics containing an aqueous phase such as creams or certain serums.

coenzyme Q10

Co-enzyme Q10 is a powerful antioxidant. It neutralizes the free radicals responsible for skin aging. Added to your anti-aging treatments, it protects the skin from the harmful oxidative effects of UV rays, helps to fade wrinkles and restore the skin's hydrolipidic film. Also called Ubiquinone, co-enzyme Q10 is produced naturally by our body but in insufficient and decreasing quantities year after year.

How to use it :

  • From 0.5 to 3% to incorporate at the end of the preparation of your homemade cosmetics (after heating) or subsequently to a cream already made.
  • Co-enzyme Q10 is soluble in oil or in cosmetics with an oily phase such as creams and the majority of serums. It is insoluble in water.
